How to Cook: Indoor "Grilled" Hot Dogs

When it comes to Hot Dogs people will usually either grill them outdoors, or boil them in a pot indoors. Personally, I really hate boiled Hot Dogs. I think they loose a lot of flavor and texture that way, and just make them way less satisfying to eat. Since I live in a really windy place, and I usually don't want to take the time to start the grill, I just "grill" them inside instead! 


This is a really simple and quick recipe to try, and you only need a few things as well! Since it's summertime I wanted to do a few recipes for the season. Eating Hot Dogs is pretty much on of the most American/Summer pass-time that there is! So, here we go! 


You will need:

- A Frying Pan with a Lid
- Tongs or a Wooden spoon to stir them with

Ingredients: 

- Hot Dogs (Any kind of amount that you want) 
- Cooking Oil, about 2 Tablespoons (You can also substitute butter if you want)

- Salt and Pepper to taste
- Paprika and Red Pepper Flakes (Optional)
- Onion Power and Minced or Powdered Garlic, about 1/4 teaspoon each
-1/3 Cup Water

First, take the pan and set it to Medium-High heat. Add the Hot Dogs, Oil, and Salt and Pepper, and stir until evenly coated.


Cook for about 4 minutes, until the oil is hot. Next, add the Paprika and Red Pepper Flakes to taste, if desired. Add the Onion Powder and Garlic. I used canned, minced garlic, you can use whichever kind you have on hand. Stir again, until the Hot Dogs are evenly coated. 


Cook in the pan for about 5 minutes, keep the heat on Medium-High. Add the water and cover the pan.


Keep them covered until the Hot Dogs look plump, and the water is at a rapid boil. Then uncover the pan. 


Let them cook in the water, stirring occasionally, until all of it has evaperated. If after 5 minutes there's still water, drain the pan. You can add some more oil to the pan at this point, if you like. 


Let them cook into the pan until they are browned to your taste. I prefer mine to be dark brown, while others people I know like them to be crisped up until it's black. However you want it fine! 


And that's it! To boil the water and cook the Hot Dogs would take just about the same amount of time as doing it this way. Put the buns in the over on warm to heat them up, add the Hot Dogs, and top them how you like! You can also cook peppers or onions in the pan while they are in the pan. 

I really do my Mustard that way, it's all in the wrist!
